Seagate is announcing its new Seagate 600 SSD, 600 Pro Enterprise SSD and 1200 Enterprise SSDs designed for consumer, entry-enterprise, and mainstream enterprise applications (respectively) and is also releasing information regarding its new X8 PCIe application accelerator card. The new Seagate 600 SSD and 600 Pro Enterprise SSD drives both feature Toshiba MLC NAND and interface over SATA, while the Seagate 1200 SSD features eMLC NAND for even higher level enterprise-grade endurance and is the first Seagate drive interfacing over 12 Gb/s SAS. The X8 PCIe cards are designed for applications where performance is paramount and are rebranded Virident FlashMAX II Application Accelerators.

The new Seagate 600 SSD is a consumer-targeted SATA drive that comes in two ultra-slim form factors at 5mm and 7mm. At those super-low height form factors, this SSD is designed as an option for enthusiasts and business users looking to upgrade their notebook drives to reduce wait and load times and increase performance. On top of that, Seagate assures notebook users that this drive will achieve those goals while sipping only a minimal amount of energy from the notebook’s battery. The 600 SSD comes in capacities of 120, 240 and 480GB and uses a Link-a-Media Controller as well as Toshiba MLC NAND.
The Seagate 600 Pro Enterprise SSD is Seagate’s new 7mm form factor entry-enterprise SATA drive slotted to fill the gap between client drives that don’t include enterprise features and firmware and more mainstream enterprise drives that have much higher sticker prices. The 600 Pro Enterprise SSD is designed for hyperscale cloud services, data streaming and caching, and any kind of read-intensive or mixed application workload. The drive comes in six different capacities at 100, 120, 200, 240, 400 and 480GB. The 120, 240 and 480GB models feature 6% over-provisioning to reduce capacity-loss and increase endurance, while the 100, 200 and 400GB are provisioned at 22% for maximum endurance. Like the Seagate 600 SSD, these drives also feature Link-a-Media Controllers and Toshiba MLC NAND.
The Seagate 1200 SSD is Seagate’s first 12GB/s SAS drive that delivers maximum IOPS. This new breed of 12GB/s SAS drives reaches up closer to PCIe Flash SSDs than 6GB/s SAS to meet the needs of organizations dealing with complex, demanding workloads. Also, in offering the drive with a SAS interface, Seagate enables organizations to leverage their existing investments. The drives also feature dual port I/O to protect users in case 1 port fails. Additionally, the 1200 SSDs feature eMLC NAND for endurance. The drives come in 200, 400 and 800GB capacities for SED models and 800GB for the FIPS SED model.
Seagate has also announced its new X8 Accelerator PCIe cards powered by Virident that come in capacities up to 2.2TB. The drives come in HHHL form factors, and Seagate is reporting extremely fast speeds up to twice that of the competition featuring up to 1.1 million IOPS. The X8 cards are optimized for MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle Enterprise Server, and VDI and VMware applications.
