Veeam Backup and Replication v7’s most significant updates are its built-in WAN Acceleration and Storage Snapshots with HP. The built-in WAN Acceleration was designed specifically by Veeam for Veeam backups and copies data to offsite locations up to 50x faster than a regular file copy. The speed erases the need for IT managers to buy a WAN acceleration appliance or extra network bandwidth. Also featured, Backup from Storage Snapshots was developed in conjunction with HP and works with HP StoreVirtual VSA, HP StoreVirtual (Lefthand, P4000) and HP StoreServ (3PAR) to improve recovery point objectives (RPOs) while removing stress otherwise released onto the virtual infrastructure. IT managers then have the option to make as many backups as they want without worrying about I/O hungry VMs effecting performance.
Veeam has been offering Free, Standard and Enterprise Editions of Veeam Backup and Replication, but now is adding Enterprise Plus which includes Built-in WAN Acceleration and Backup from Storage Snapshots. Current Enterprise Edition users and those who purchase or upgrade to Enterprise Edition before July 1 of this year will receive a free upgrade to Enterprise Plus through November 1, 2013.
Better Integration with HP
Veeam is also announcing that it will enable backup from SAN snapshots supporting HP StoreVirtual Storage and HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage. This builds on last year’s release of Veeam Explore for SAN Snapshots which enables VM recovery and individual items right from periodic SAN snapshots for better RTO. While traditional storage snapshots haven’t been fail-proof because if the SAN went down the snapshots were lost, Veeam’s solution creates true backups and replicas from which IT can restore.
Pricing and Availability
Veeam Backup & Replication v7 will be available in Q3 2013. The MSRP for the Standard Edition is $750/socket, the Enterprise Edition is $1250/socket and the Enterprise Plus Edition is $1999/socket. Veeam Backup Free Edition continues to be available for free.
