Pure Storage Announces FlashArray 400

by storagereview

Pure Storage is announcing the immediate availability and shipment of the FlashArray 400 Series, its third generation all-flash enterprise storage array. The FlashArray 400 has twice as much storage capacity and performance at 100TB of usable all-flash capacity and up to 400,000 8k IOPS. It achieves these figures using Intel’s latest 8-core Sandy Bridge processor. Additionally, it is powered by the Purity Operating Environment 3.0 software which has several new enhancements: CloudAssist support technology, ZeroSnap accelerated VM cloning, always on data-at-rest encryption and tighter integration with third-party applications. With simple implementation, the FlashArray 400 Series enables deployment in just minutes as well as upgrades and expanded deployments of the FlashArray 300 Series.

Purity 3.0 includes a load of new and updated features. FlashArray now features always-on data-at-rest 256-bit AES encryption. Additionally, Pure Storage has enhanced its ZeroSnap snapshot feature which speeds up VM cloning. The technology enables a typical VM clone operation to be offloaded to the FlashArray which can clone a single VM in about 2 seconds, or 1,000 VMs in 30 minutes. Pure Storage has also furthered their integration with third-party applications as well by including the OpenStack CINDER driver and by now supporting IBM AIX ACA (native multi-pathing), VMware vSphere VAAI xCopy, and the vSphere Web Client management plugin now supports iSCSI.

Also new, CloudAssist provides problem alerts, identification and analysis in the cloud, and crowdsourced intelligence. CloudAssist support members monitor arrays in real-time and can resolve issues and perform maintenance via a secure connection if the customer requests that. Any problems diagnosed are uploaded to the analysis engine so that all customers can be notified about potential issues.
