Cleversafe has announced that it is introducing updates to its ClevOS dispersed object-based storage software alongside new Slicestor devices now available that can leverage ClevOS’s new Cache Vault feature. ClevOS manages object storage at petabyte and exabyte scales with an emphasis on affordability, but as part of the software updates, can improve Objects per Second (OPS) performance for frequently accessed data via a unified Cleversafe Dispersed Storage Network (dsNet).
Cleversafe has announced that it is introducing updates to its ClevOS dispersed object-based storage software alongside new Slicestor devices now available that can leverage ClevOS’s new Cache Vault feature. ClevOS manages object storage at petabyte and exabyte scales with an emphasis on affordability, but as part of the software updates, can improve Objects per Second (OPS) performance for frequently accessed data via a unified Cleversafe Dispersed Storage Network (dsNet).
The updated ClevOS 3.1 enables customers to deploy higher OPS Cache Vaults alongside standard storage vaults in the same physical storage pool, for example to accelerate retrieval of thumbnail preview images while the original images are stored in a standard vault. According to the company, Cache Vaults can be enabled on any of its Slicestor appliances, and according to the company enables approximately 10 times the OPS performance of a standard dsNet vault when benchmarked on the same hardware.
Slicestor 4100
The new 1U Slicestor 4100 appliances offers 10 times the OPS of the Slicestor 1440 by using SSDs to better support mixed workloads across a dsNet. Objects and workloads with high OPS requirements are allocated to faster flash storage which can be used in conjunction with slower existing 1440 appliances.

Slicestor 2440
According to Cleversafe, the new Slicestor 2440 offers 5 times the throughput and 4 times the OPS of the Slicestor 1440 with the same storage density (48 x 4TB drives in 4U). This improved performance stems from increased processor power and HBA capacity means that Cleversafe can market the Slicestor 2440 to enterprises that are interested in a range of applications, from Cleversafe’s mainstay of active archive and backup to more intensive applications that require more intensive data access and analysis.
