Fusion is announcing updates and enhancements across its ioMemory-based virtualization solutions, including new ioVDI software for virtual desktop infrastructure acceleration, updated ioTurbine caching software, a VMware Reference Architecture for the ioControl hybrid flash array, and VMware Virtual SAN (VSAN) certification. Each of these solutions uses ioMemory devices and software to target bottlenecks in virtualization performance.

Fusion yesterday announced the general availability of its new ioVDI software, a solution that improves the performance of VDI environments by caching write operations that do not need to be persistent in shared storage, as well as making other performance-oriented enhancements to VMware-based virtual desktop infrastructures. A new VMware-validated VDI Reference Architecture documents how the ioControl hybrid flash appliance can be used with ioVDI to establish software-defined storage performance assignments based on application priorities. In addition to utilizing the ioControl hybrid storage appliance, the reference architecture provides guidance for incorporating Fusion’s VDI acceleration technology with Cisco UCS and VMware Horizon View.
Fusion ioMemory flash devices are now also VMware-certified for VMware Virtual SAN converged virtual infrastructures, a new software-defined storage solution currently in beta which extends the hypervisor to pool CPUs, flash memory, and local drives in order to provide converged compute and storage infrastructure. ioTurbine accelerates SAN storage with support for hypervisor and guest caching, dynamic reallocation of cache memory during vMotion, and unified management of caching across virtual and physical environments. ioTurbine has received updates to improve integration with vCenter as well as operating system support for vSphere 5.5, RHEL 6.5 and SLES 11.
A downloadable ioTurbine profiler software tool is available to evaluate storage environment and application workloads for use with ioTurbine. Clients can also request consultations through the Fusion-io Fast Flash program.
