Quantum today announced the latest addition its DXi deduplication family: the DXi6900 appliance, powered by StorNext 5 software and oriented towards enterprise deployments and service providers. The DXi6900 can scale from 17TB to 510TB, and according to Quantum, the DXi6900’s 16TB per hour ingestion rate will make it fastest single-stream backup and restore solution in its class due to DXi’s proprietary variable length deduplication technology.

The DXi6900 uses a dual-controller architecture with 4TB hard drives for storage and is oriented towards midrange to enterprise environments which can leverage its scalable architecture. The DXi family is now composed of the DXi6900 along with the DXi4700 for SMB to midrange clients and the DXi V-Series for virtual environments. The DXi series can be integrated Quantum’s Q-Cloud Protect data protection service to provide data protection and management continuity between site deployments and the cloud.
Quantum’s iLayer software consolidates multisite data protection configuration and management by way of a topology-based view of the overall environment. iLayer provides monitoring and reporting for DXi deployments, including reports to mobile devices. The DXi family can also make use of self-encrypting drives with AES-256 encryption.
Availability
The Quantum DXi6900 is available now with a starting list price of $88,000. The system is scalable from 17TB to 510TB usable capacity.
