LaCie has announced the addition of USB–C technology to its Porsche Design Mobile Drive. With USB-C technology, both ends of the cable are identical and the connector is reversible, which helps make the LaCie Mobile Drive easier to connect, as there is no need to think about which end goes to which device or worrying about plugging it in the wrong way.
As is the case with all LaCie devices, the LaCie Mobile Drive combines form and function, quoting USB 3.0 interface speeds to 100 MB/s, making the transfer of videos, photos, and other user content pretty speedy. In addition, the LaCie Mobile Drive is comprised of an enclosure made from 3 mm–thick solid aluminum, which allows this device to take a beating. Its aluminum finish is as also the same material used with the latest MacBook, making it a nice companion next to one.
The LaCie Mobile Drive was designed primarily for Mac users, as it is Time Machine compatible to allow for the seamless back up files using built-in software. However, with the included adapter cable, it is also compatible with standard USB 3.0 (Type–A) or USB 2.0 ports.
Availability
The new LaCie Mobile Drive is slated for a release next quarter in 500GB (slim size), 1TB, and 2TB capacities via the LaCie Online Store and LaCie Resellers.
