Today OCZ Storage Solutions, a Toshiba Group Company, released a new SSD management solution, Guru. Guru allows user to do the usual monitoring and maintenance of their SSDs, but it also gives them enough information to “unlock their SSD’s full potential.”

Guru is run through a simple to use GUI. From the main dashboard users can see an overview of their SSD. Users can easily see the capacity usage, the type of interface the SSD uses, the health of the drive (amount of life left), and whether or not their firmware is up to date. The overview also has tabs that allows user to check their entire system as well as SMART details that check over things such as endurance, functionality, and information.

The SSD tuner that comes with Guru allows users to manually activate TRIM and advanced users can increase overprovisioning. The Tuner tab also gives information on optimizing the OS that is running on the SSD. Through the OS tuner users can adjust reliability, performance, capacity, or customize a strategy.

The maintenance tab allows users to update their firmware (this can be setup to automatically update as well). Users can also use secure erase to wipe the drive back to its original state. OCZ disables this function on boot drives.

The Settings tab enables users to adjust the settings of Guru. Here users can start an even log or set one up to automatically come on at start-up. Guru can be setup to run in the background and come on at log in. And advanced users can manage their storage using a proxy server.

And finally, the help tab connects users with support, has links to the OCZ forum for their issues, and a feature called Save Support Package allows users to save a report containing system information, SMART data, and the serial number, and send it directly to support for help.

Availability

Guru is available for all Barefoot 3 based SATA drives as well as the PCI Express RevoDrive 350. Guru can be downloaded through OCZ’s website.
