DataDirect Networks (DDN) has announced that it expanded its high-performance file storage portfolio with the DDN MEDIAScaler and DDN GRIDScaler 3.0. The former addition is the industry’s first file-based workflow solution to offer simultaneous, concurrent access to media content across hundreds of users all the while improving transcode, reducing hardware footprint, and integrating with the Cloud. The DDN GRIDScaler 3.0 is designed for high-performance computing workloads with enterprise feature demands for integrated data protection, replication and data security.
Based on 1/10/100 Gb/E, MEDIAScaler does not require Fibre Channel or a SAN and is built to handle over 10,000 simultaneous users, both on premise or in the Cloud in a single hostname / namespace. In addition, DDS has quoted the MEDIAScaler with sustained performance at over 90% system utilization, all the while sharing high and low performance clients in single storage infrastructure. It also uses intelligent cluster management to take advantage of the highest performance node available at any given time. DDN’s new device features content protection and availability with its integrated bandwidth optimized replication options, snapshots, and online capacity expansion.
With the MEDIAScaler appliance, DDN indicates that it is addressing the shortcomings of today’s legacy storage products by providing end-to-end digital content management and data protection in a single solution for large scale environments of dozens to hundreds of petabytes. The MEDIAScaler is also designed to handle millions of IOPS, allowing users to animate, render, edit, and transcode on a very high-performance platform.
MEDIAScaler is equipped with seamless tiering capabilities and supports File storage, Object storage, Active Archive, Cloud and Tape to allow users to retain large media content in high performance archive or remote locations, both easily and cost effectively. This seamless integration enables simple and fast Ethernet client connectivity through CIFS, NFS or DDN Media Client; all without the need for fibre channel for optimized parallel access and use cases.
The DDN GRIDScaler 3.0 offers a considerably expanded enterprise feature set to the company’s high performance hybrid storage solution. It also includes the general availability of turnkey GS7K appliance, the industry’s first scale-out parallel file system solution complete with enterprise-class features, NAS access and Cloud-tiering capabilities, which include:
- Data encryption for security and compliance
- High-performance mixed IO for mixed application use
- Hadoop connector for data analytics
- Turnkey appliance for ease of deployment and management.
GRIDScaler is equipped with enhanced features and capabilities that streamline integration and offers complete data protection, security and management options for today’s high performance, mixed workload environments. In addition, GRIDScaler’s enterprise-class features include scaling up and scaling out abilities to meet capacity and performance requirements easily and efficiently. It also offers new snapshots, synchronous and asynchronous replication and asynchronous error diagnosis for enhanced data management and protection, data security with native encryption and secure erase, integrated data analytics with a new Hadoop connector and mixed workload support.
