Spectra Logic announced today a proof of concept integration of BlackPearl Deep Storage Gateway with NetApp StorageGRID Webscale. As we previously stated: StorageGRID Webscale software will address a range of use cases, managing data placement according to cost, compliance, availability, and performance requirements, delivering the storage needed with speed, security, and scalability. StorageGRID Webscale runs on a virtualized server infrastructure with either NetApp E-series data storage systems or with third-party storage arrays. And is purpose-built for large archives, media repositories, and web data stores. Spectra Logic’s BlackPearl Deep Storage Gateway sits in front of the deep storage tape libraries and can easily be used as a tier for deep storage, is cost-effective, and has extremely high scalability. The BlackPearl Deep Storage Gateway is aimed at organizations where data is a significant part of their operations.
NetApp uses StorageGRID Webscale’s S3 end point connector to add Spectra Logic’s BlackPearl Deep Storage Gateway as an archive location for files, stored in StorageGRID as objects. The two solutions working together eliminate complexities and offer a multi-site collaboration and long-term content archive. StorageGRID Webscale policy engine provides automated data placement across storage tiers, then stores content via user defined policies to BlackPearl. BlackPearl enables object storage directly to tape.
Both StorageGRID Webscale and BlackPearl Gateway support disk and flash on-premises as well as S3-compatible cloud storage. StorageGRID successfully added, retrieved, listed, and deleted objects to the BlackPearl Deep Storage Gateway.
