HGST, a Western Digital company, has hit a few milestones recently with their enterprise drives. They ship the largest capacity non-SMR drive, the Ultrastar He8 8TB. Of their helium drives, they have deployed over a million so far. Recently their Ultrastar Helium HDDs achieved a field reliability of 2.5 million hours mean time between failures (MTBF), and on the heels of that news, HGST’s SAS SSDs have also achieved a MTBF of 2.5 million hours.

2.5 million hours MTBF is 25% better than most of the leading SSDs (the average being 2 million MTBF). In essence, this means customers can expect HGST Ultrastar SAS SSDs to be 25% more reliable than other leading brands. This announcement will make customers, such as data center customers and service providers, take a closer look at HGST SSDs.
