Eaton Introduces New Automatic Transfer Switch

by Adam Armstrong

Today Eaton introduced a new automatic transfer switch (ATS) for data centers in both North and South America, the eATS30 Monitored platform. In the event of a power failure, Eaton’s new ATS switches to an alternating current power source. Eaton’s latest product will allow for consistent uptime for equipment with a single power supply.

Designed to be especially valuable to mission critical datacenters, Eaton’s eATS30 gives consistent, 24/7 uptime for data protection. The new ATS has a network card that both alerts IT in the event of a power drop and can sense the proper conditions to initiate a transfer to keep devices running. The new ATS delivers a 10ms transfer time, keeping power supplies on during transfers.

The eATS30 is designed to work with Eaton’s other power solutions such as power distribution units (PDUs) and uninterruptible power systems (UPSs). The eATS30 can also be paired with Eaton’s latest ePDU Gen3 platform, which comes with Intelligent Power Management software. This new software enables units to be monitored through through virtualization systems like VMware vCenter Server.

Features include:

  • Provide power redundancy to equipment with 1 or 2 power supplies
  • Automatically transfers power from the primary source to a secondary source if there is an issue with the primary
  • Power is transferred back to the primary source when it is automatically restored
  • Status LEDs indicate power available and output source
  • Clearly labeled circuits simplify load balancing
  • eATS assures the highest level of redundancy to mission critical applications
  • Integrates with Eaton network closet solutions

eATS30 specifications:

  • Form factor: 1U
  • Power Range: 1.4kW to 5kW
  • Input Voltage: 100 to 240V
  • Function: Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS)
