In collaboration with 20th Century Fox, WD has announced the new My Passport Cinema 4K Ultra HD (UHD) movie storage solution, specifically designed to organize and store high-definition digital movies and TV shows on VIDITY-enabled devices such as Samsung SUHD TVs. Compatible content also includes new releases in full 4K UHD resolution with high dynamic range (HDR).
Leveraging VIDITY technology, the My Passport Cinema drive allows users to watch their movies in true 4K UHD picture (8.3 million pixels) and immersive audio. Users simply need to connect the My Passport Cinema drive into a VIDITY-compatible UHD TV or device and then purchase pre-loaded movies from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. The purchased movies can be then accessed online or offline on any VIDITY-enabled device including Samsung's 2014 HU series 4K UHD TVs and 2015 JU and JS series 4K UHD and SUHD TVs. Owners will also have the ability to download more titles through M-GO and other VIDITY retailers.
WD has also indicated that their My Passport Cinema will be included free with the purchase of Samsung JS9000, JS9100 or JS9500 SUHD TV models from August 16, 2015, through June 30, 2016. The premium movies that will be preloaded during this promotion include: The Maze Runner, Exodus: Gods and Kings, X-Men: Days of the Future Past, The Wolverine, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Fault in Our Stars, Let's Be Cops and The Other Woman.
