Lenovo and StorMagic have announced a collaborative effort to produce new low-cost, hyper-converged solutions for remote-office/branch office markets, which will be available through electronic components and enterprise computing provider, Arrow Electronics. These solutions are designed for small business and distributed enterprise customers and will offer highly available and customizable virtual infrastructure as a simple and reliable bundled solution. Lenovo also recently announced a partnership with Pivot3 to launch a Global Hyper-Converged solution to their clients.
To provide their customers with a reliable, scalable option for many types of environments, the new hyper-converged solutions will take full advantage of Lenovo’s line of enterprise servers, such as the entry-level 1U ThinkServer RS140, System x3250 M5, and the high performance 2U ThinkServer RD650. In addition to these servers, the StorMagic’s SvSAN software-defined storage platform allows enterprises to eliminate downtime of business critical applications using virtualized shared storage. The platform is designed as a cost effective and highly available environment for retail, banking, education and hospitality customers with multi-site offices.
The solution is also equipped with a simple two-server configuration, which can lower cost-of-entry into shared storage in virtualized environments. StorMagic indicates that their SvSAN solution boasts a decrease in TCO by 40 percent with its superior power efficiency, cooling, and maintenance costs coupled with reduced dedicated IT resources. In addition, StorMagic claims that customers will gain greater flexibility as both SvSAN and Lenovo’s servers can be scaled quite easily when their customers storage requirements grow. It also has the ability to support multiple hypervisor platforms, which streamlines integration into existing infrastructure.
Availability and Pricing
Starting at $5,000 through Arrow Electronics, the hyper-converged solution from StorMagic and Lenovo is currently available in North America.
