Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has unveiled new hyper-converged infrastructure solutions and software enhancements for VMware environments. These solutions are designed to help remove complexity, protect workloads, and reduce the always increasing operational expenses that hit enterprises. Ideal use cases include partners and customers looking to transform their traditional data centers into private and hybrid cloud environments.
Announced back in April, the Hitachi Unified Compute Platform (UCP) 1000 for VMware EVO:RAIL is a simple, pre-built and fully optimized hyper-converged appliance intended for rapid, low-cost deployment of remote office, test and development, virtual desktop and similar virtualized solutions. Like the previous UCP models, the UCP 1000 for VMware EVO:RAIL provides enterprise converged infrastructure solutions that support core-to-edge IT workloads all the while simplifying the progressively complex data centers, and now remote offices. Hitachi UCP 1000 for VMware EVO:RAIL offers optional integration with Hitachi Data Ingestor software for easy-to-use, cost-effective data protection. As a result, it enables bottomless backup on-premise with Hitachi Content Platform (HCP) as well as in the cloud with Hitachi Cloud Service for Content Archiving.
Also announced is new VMware vSphere Virtual Volumes support for the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) G1000, allowing customers to automate and leverage granular VM control and policy-based management of VM growth as well as to create greater data center efficiency.
In addition, the company has released a new version of Hitachi Virtual Infrastructure Integrator 3.0, a comprehensive data protection and management solution specifically designed for VMware vSphere. Hitachi also indicates that it simplifies data management for file and block storage and provides scheduled and instantaneous backup, recovery and cloning services, helping customers meet their backup and recovery service level requirements.
Lastly, HDS is now offering stretched storage cluster capabilities on VSP systems through global-active device technology coupled with VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager. Hitachi asserts that it will give customers nondisruptive application mobility as well as improved recovery point objectives and recovery time objectives if a disaster occurs.
HDS will be showcasing these new solutions for VMware environments at VMworld on August 30 to September 2.
