Citrix announced today the first new release of Melio since Citrix acquired Sanbolic in January 2015. Melio is Citrix data and storage virtualization software. Melio 6 is optimized for Citrix workloads and is aimed at cutting costs and reducing management complexity for enterprises.
Melio 6 is a major upgrade. Including a new Citrix user interface, Melio 6 is designed for high availability and scale-out of XenDesktop and XenApp and includes optimized performance and scalability for hyper-converged architectures. Melio 6 is for Citrix desktop and app customers that need reduced image management, high availability of PVS/MCS, databases and user profiles. Melio 6 is also ideal for customers that have more than one location for geo-distribution of data and those moving toward hyper-converged infrastructure.
Melio 6 is a pure software solution that address some of the issues of the ever increasing mobile workforce and IT’s need to manage and access this data. The enterprise version does this by leveraging Citrix’s Independent Storage Architecture (ISA). The Melio ISA aggregates all storage resources on Melio-powered servers into a common storage pool. The storage pool is then shared by all servers providing high availability and give customers cost savings similar to that of using the cloud.
