According to Gartner, the total Chinese public cloud market size will reach US$20.7 billion in 2018, from US$5.3 billion in 2013 with a compound annual growth rate of 31.5%. AliCloud is by far the leader in Chinese cloud computing market. With the world transitioning to Cloud computing, the cloud needs to react more like the datacenter meaning that applications need to run similar in either case. Running Panzura’s controller in the AliCloud is the first step toward creating a hybrid architecture that address issues caused by lack of co-location of applications. Businesses will now be able to natively run applications in the cloud such as high-performance computing, antivirus, file auditing, search, indexing, and rendering.
Panzura also announced that its SkyBridge will soon be supporting the AliCloud platform as well. As we stated previously, SkyBridge co-locates a consistent, locking file system in the cloud that is identical to the file system in the corporate datacenters and then eliminates networking challenges in between. This will give enterprises the benefits of the cloud (such as scale and economics) and the cost benefit of not maintaining on-premise infrastructure. In the case of AliCloud, SkyBridge will configure and initialize a Layer 2 VPN connection between AliCloud and the corporate datacenter with a single mouse click.
