Hedvig also announced that Luossavaara-Kiirunavaara AB (LKAB), the world’s technologically leading supplier of iron ore to the global steel industry, has chosen Hedvig Distributed Storage Platform as its new form of storage.

As the Internet of Everything (IoE) continues its rapid expansion connecting everything from people to devices together, lots of opportunities exist. Hedvig will be able to leverage its membership in Cisco Solution Partner Program to quickly create and deploy software-defined storage (SDS) solutions to enhance the capabilities, performance and management of the network to capture value in the IoE. The membership will also introduce Hedvig’s platform to joint customers.

LKAB was looking for a way to operate its IT as efficiently as possible. The company looked into multiple different solutions including the public cloud. LKAB uses analysis of historical data to determine future mining operations and permanently stores all the data it collects from a wide range of applications. This type of analysis and storage strains traditional enterprise storage solutions as it can quickly run out of disk space resulting in multiple forklift upgrades. Working with Layer 8 IT-services, LKAB was able to identify and implement the Hedvig solution. LKAB’s use of Hedvig means lower, more predictable costs for its data storage hardware, software, and support and it can skip the headache of forklift upgrades.

Hedvig’s Distributed Storage Platform delivers a modern, high-performance storage system by combining the power of distributed systems, the simplicity of cloud, and a complete set of enterprise capabilities. Using Hedvig, LKAB is able to easily scale as data grows and leverages its existing Cisco UCS hardware as an asset as opposed to disposable storage that has to be upgraded every few years. LKAB states that they plan on hosting more than 500TB of data on the Hedvig platform.
