Today Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. announced that is wholly owned subsidiary, OCZ, has made a dual port version of its Z-Drive 6000 NVM Express (NVMe) Solid State Drive (SSD) series immediately available. With a dual port connection two hosts can concurrently access data from the same storage device. Or users can use the dual port as a redundant access path to the drive, providing SAS-like features such as High Availability (HA).

The Z-Drive 6000 series now represents a complete SSD solution supporting I/O needs, high bandwidth, low latency, and now being dual ported, redundancy. The new dual port ability means that a single point of failure is eliminated as well as the ability to maintain QoS when two hosts are accessing the same drive in the event of a failure. Other enhancements on the new Z-Drive 6000 series are multiple namespaces, non-binary sector sizes, and self-encrypting drive (SED) with Crypto Erase.

Looking at performance, OCZ claims its Z-Drive 6000 series can hit sustained I/O performance over 700,000 IOPS for 4K random read and consistent low-latency of 30 µs. The U.2 drives are hot-swappable and run in capacity from 800GB up to 6.4TB. OCZ offers the drives in both read-intensive models and mixed workload models as well as an HHHL AIC (though the AIC does not support dual porting).
