QNAP Systems has released the TBS-453A NASbook, which is touted as the world’s first M.2 SSD-based NAS. The TBS-453A provides users with full NAS functionalities and RAID protection in an ultra-compact size. It also acts as a physical network switch to share network access with multiple users and features a near-silent design, dual HDMI output, and 4K display.
QNAP Systems has released the TBS-453A NASbook, which is touted as the world’s first M.2 SSD-based NAS. The TBS-453A provides users with full NAS functionalities and RAID protection in an ultra-compact size. It also acts as a physical network switch to share network access with multiple users and features a near-silent design, dual HDMI output, and 4K display.
The TBS-453A is powered by a 14nm Intel Celeron N3150 quad-core 1.6GHz processor with the ability to automatically burst up to 2.08GHz for CPU-intensive tasks. In addition, it ships with dual-channel 4GB/8GB DDR3L RAM, two Gigabit Ethernet ports, and three Gigabit switch ports that support network switch and private network modes. These modes give users the ability to build flexible network environments that improve workgroup collaboration. It achieves this by giving connected devices access to files stored on the TBS-453A or to share internet connectivity.
Performance-wise, QNAP’s new NAS is quoted to deliver upwards of 112MB/s in throughput per LAN port and supports AES-NI hardware-accelerated encryption to drive AES 256-bit encrypted transfer speeds of up to 109MB/s in throughput per LAN port. The TBS-453A’s storage can also be expanded by connecting an 8-bay UX-800P or 5-bay UX-500P expansion enclosure.
The TBS-453A is designed for rich multimedia applications as well, as users can connect the NAS to a TV or A/V receiver to view 4K multimedia content. It also comes with two 3.5 mm microphone jacks, a line out port, a built-in speaker, and the OceanKTV app, allowing for a diverse range of audio use cases. In addition, the TBS-453A features a variety of applications to meet business needs and to improve productivity.
Like most QNAP NAS solutions, users can connect a keyboard, mouse and HDMI display to the device so it can be used as a Linux workstation for open-source software development or simply just to use Linux apps. QTS Storage Manager provides a web-based snapshot tool for efficient data recovery, which allows upwards of 1,024 snapshots for volumes and LUNs in a NAS, while Qsirch allows users to find NAS data quickly due to its near real-time full-text search engine.
