by Lyle Smith

Acronis, provider of disaster recovery and data protection solutions, has announced its latest release of Acronis Backup & Recovery: a unified platform from which organizations can centrally manage data protection and disaster recovery tasks for physical, virtual and cloud environments from a single management console, and move data between environments quickly and easily. It also offers organizations the ability to reduce their management overhead and TCO, as the unified platform can manage Windows and Linux, and all major hypervisors including Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization, VMware vSphere, Windows Hyper-V, Citrix and Parallels, and integrates with Acronis Cloud storage in one installation.

The newest release of Acronis tackles the issue of the increased usage of cloud infrastructure for storage optimization by introducing disk-to-disk-to-cloud staging into its unified backup and recovery platform. With this addition, it lessens the backup window for live physical and virtual machines while simplifying the management of both destinations.

Other functionality upgrades include granular recovery for Microsoft Exchange and the ability to buy support for Microsoft Exchange Server, as well as the support for Active Directory, SQL Server and SharePoint applications relied on by enterprises worldwide, which are already included within the Acronis Backup & Recovery unified platform.

Additionally, Acronis Backup & Recovery allows customers to purchase licenses for only the agents and application support they need, with the option to purchase additional services ‘on demand’ as their environment changes. Management may find this feature useful as it would significantly reduce the management burden of procuring, learning and integrating additional products as networks change, creating a more efficient workplace.

Pricing and Availability
Acronis Backup & Recovery is available now in several editions, with major server releases starting at $859.
