Addonics Technologies has announced that it is now shipping its RAID Rack family of 1U rack-mount chassis with removable drive systems for simple attaching four 3.5” SATA hard drives of any capacity to a system using either a single eSATA, USB 3.0, Firewire 800 or mini SAS connection. Each of the drives are configurable as a RAID group or as independent drives. Users can begin their RAID Rack configuration with just one hard drive and then expand by adding more as their storage needs increase. Users can choose from models with Port Multipliers or with simple direct drive connection through eSATA or mini SAS cables. Additionally, drives can be added or removed directly like tape cartridges. The RAID Rack is compatible with various operating systems depending on the host controller.

Included among the new 1U RAID models is the R1ESU3F, which comes integrated with a hardware Port Multiplier with RAID accelerator for high performance. All four drives can connect to the system using a single eSATA, USB 3.0 or Firewire 800/400 cable. RAID is configured through a set of switches, which are accessed at the back, or by software utility. The pricing of the R1ESU3F is listed as $359.
The R1MSAS supports the connection all four drives using a single mini SAS cable to a system equipped with a mini SAS connector(SFF-8088). Like the other model, the four drives can be used as independent drives or set to RAID using the RAID utility of the OS or the attached controller. Additionally, its Mini SAS cable connection can be up to 10 feet long, which makes it an ideal solution for environments that require direct attached storage with long cable connection. The R1MSAS is priced at $299.
