Dot Hill has announced that its AssuredVRA virtual RAID adapter software, branded RAIDCore, will be a part of AMD’s A-Series APU chipset. AssuredVRA is intended to provide more robust functionality than hardware RAID-on-motherboard (ROMB) solutions while keeping costs below dedicated RAID controller cards.

Dot Hill has developed its Virtual RAID Adapter (VRA) technology portfolio to appeal to designers of entry- to mid-level systems where a virtual solution can provide features usually associated with higher cost RAID solutions. VRAs can also require less power and cooling, further reducing costs when dedicated RAID hardware is not necessary.
Dot Hill will offer reference designs for AssuredVRA driver and web-based management solutions for embedded, notebook, desktop, and server systems to manufacturers that use supported AMD core logic chipsets. AssuredVRA supports the built-in core logic SATA ports that come as part of these systems, enabling vendors to add RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 capabilities to unused built-in SATA controllers.
