AMD has officially unveiled today, February 28th, the Radeon RX 9000 Series, the latest addition to its graphics card lineup. Built on the cutting-edge AMD RDNA™ 4 architecture, the RX 9000 Series delivers groundbreaking gaming performance and advanced AI acceleration, offering a major advancement for both gaming and creative workloads. With improvements in power efficiency and ray tracing capabilities, the RX 9000 Series is designed to meet the demands of next-gen applications. Aimed at competing with the NVIDIA RTX 5070 and RTX 5070 Ti, the RX 9000 Series is positioned to deliver exceptional value and performance. The RX 9000 Series will be available starting March 6th, setting a new standard for high-performance graphics cards.
Performance and Architecture
At the heart of the RX 9000 Series is the AMD RDNA™ 4 architecture, which introduces up to 64 unified compute units, delivering up to 40% higher gaming performance compared to its predecessor, RDNA 3. The series also integrates third-generation Raytracing Accelerators, offering over 2x the raytracing throughput per compute unit, enhancing realism with lifelike lighting, shadows, and reflections.
The RX 9000 lineup is headlined by two models: the Radeon RX 9070 XT and the Radeon RX 9070. The RX 9070 XT features 64 compute units, a game clock of 2.4 GHz, and a boost clock of up to 3.0 GHz. Meanwhile, the RX 9070 offers 56 compute units, a game clock of 2.1 GHz, and a boost clock of up to 2.5 GHz. Both models come equipped with 16GB of GDDR6 memory on a 256-bit interface and 64MB of Infinity Cache.
Model | Compute Units | GDDR6 | Game Clock (GHz) | Boost Clock (GHz) | Memory Interface | Infinity Cache | TBP | Price (USD SEP) |
AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT | 64 | 16 GB | 2.4 | Up to 3.0 | 256-bit | 64 MB | 304W | $599 |
AMD Radeon RX 9070 | 56 | 16 GB | 2.1 | Up to 2.5 | 256-bit | 64 MB | 220W | $549 |
AI Acceleration and FidelityFX Super Resolution 4
A standout feature of the RX 9000 Series is the second-generation AI accelerators, which provide up to 8x INT8 throughput per AI accelerator compared to the previous RDNA 3 architecture. This enhancement not only benefits AI workloads but also powers AMD’s newest ML-powered upscaling technology, FidelityFX™ Super Resolution 4 (FSR 4). FSR 4 improves temporal stability, preserves detail, and reduces ghosting, providing significant image quality improvements for supported games.
AMD’s AI-accelerated software suite, Adrenalin Edition™, further enhances the user experience, offering tools like AMD Chat and the App Portal to help users discover and install AI applications.
Next-Generation Display Support
The RX 9000 Series is built with the AMD Radiance Display™ Engine, supporting DisplayPort™ 2.1a and HDMI® 2.1b connections. These cards can drive ultra-high resolutions and refresh rates, including up to 8K at 144Hz and 4K at 240Hz, with support for 12-bit HDR and full REC2020 color space.
AMD FreeSync™ technology ensures tear-free, stutter-free gaming on over 4000 compatible displays, positioning the RX 9000 Series as a versatile choice for both gamers and creators.
Pricing and Availability
The Radeon RX 9000 Series will be available from board partners including ASUS, Gigabyte, XFX, Sapphire, and others starting March 6th, 2025. The RX 9070 XT is priced at $599 USD, while the RX 9070 is set at $549 USD, offering competitive options for gamers looking to upgrade their systems.
With its blend of raw performance, AI acceleration, and cutting-edge display capabilities, the AMD Radeon RX 9000 Series sets a new standard for what gamers and creators can expect from a modern graphics card.
