Asigra is now shipping its new Cloud Backup Connector Appliance which features a Cisco 2921 Integrated Services Router that can provide local and cloud backup across storage, servers, desktops, laptops and mobile devices. The appliance is designed as a turnkey solution for SMB and distributed enterprise branch offices that can optionally provide both onsite backup data storage and replication to a variety of cloud storage providers. Cisco clients can also utilize Asigra’s Cloud Backup v12.2 software on existing Cisco 3900 and 2900 ISR G2 routers and UCS E-Series server blades via a server module.

The Cloud Backup Connector Appliance can act as a data aggregator or as both aggregator and data vault. The appliance ships with 2TB internal storage which can be increased to provide 10TB of compressed and de-duplicated storage for local data recovery. The appliance offers three integrated RJ-45 gigabit Ethernet ports with 1 port also capable of SFP connectivity, as well as one service module slot, three onboard digital signal processor slots and one internal service module for application services.

Asigra’s solution is designed to sidestep network bottlenecks encountered with hub-and-spoke approaches to coordinating backup to the cloud, where multiple offices must replicate to a central point before being synchronized with cloud storage. This distributed architecture also eliminates the head office as a central point of failure in the backup and recovery infrastructure. Local users can receive LAN-like performance while still ensuring that data is highly available and secure across the enterprise. Asigra Cloud Backup is agentless, requiring less CPU resources and fewer open ports on the network than agent-based solutions for backup and recovery.

Asigra has emphasized automation and remote administration by incorporating schedule, notification, and retention policy functions into a single management pane that can be accessed via a web interface. Autonomic healing ensures data consistency in the repository as well as detecting and correcting logical errors and corruption. The solution’s Validation Restore functionality works in the background to ensures recoverability by temporarily rebuilding files. The Cloud Backup Connector Appliance offers NIST FIPS 140-2 certification and AES 256 encryption for healthcare, financial services, government, and other security-sensitive applications.
