One of the key upgrades in this release is a dedicated restore app designed to make file recovery more straightforward for users. Alongside the restore app, this version also includes important bug fixes and performance enhancements aimed at improving both the security and speed of the backup process. 
Backblaze Computer Backup v9.0 – Restore Client App
The most significant feature of the 9.0 release is its highly requested restore app for both macOS and Windows platforms. Instead of navigating through a web interface, users can now initiate the file recovery process directly from their desktops. Once the user logs into their Backblaze account within the app, a file tree appears, allowing for immediate access to backed-up files. This feature essentially eliminates a range of time-consuming steps that were once required, allowing for a more streamlined restore process.
The restore app also has a built-in authentication process. Users need to validate their Backblaze accounts directly within the application, which improves both security and ease of use. This in-app authentication reduces the need to toggle between web browsers and the application.
Another significant advantage of the restore app is that it imposes no limitations on the size of files that can be restored. Previously, users had to download large ZIP files and then extract them, which often requires extra disk space that users might not have. This new feature does away with these restrictions, allowing users to restore files directly without worrying about disk space requirements that happen when unpacking ZIP files.
The new app also features a Restore Log, which allows users to monitor the progress of their ongoing restoration processes. This added layer of visibility can be particularly useful for tracking large file restores or for diagnosing any issues that may arise during the process.
