With cloud storage and file sharing services becoming more common in many industries, hybrid cloud solutions such as the new Drobo 5N-Copy integration offer the opportunity to benefit from cloud storage while maintaining centralized administrative control of data. Users can access Copy storage from clients for Windows, OS X, Linux, iOS, Android, and Microsoft Surface. Bi-directional syncing automatically stores files uploaded to Copy from these clients over the internet to the Drobo 5N.
Beginning in March, Drobo 5N users will have the option of installing the Copy client from within the Drobo Dashboard. 5GB of Copy storage is provided free of charge, with additional storage available for purchase from Barracuda. At this point, the Drobo partnership is the only third-party integration with Copy, but Barracuda indicates that the arrangement is not an exclusive one.
Pricing and Availability
The Drobo 5N is now available from Drobo starting at $599 with 5GB of Copy cloud storage included. The Copy application for the Drobo 5N is expected in March 2013. Barracuda will license additional Copy cloud storage capacity directly to Drobo users at $99 and $149 price points.
