by Mark Kidd

Barracuda Networks has announced the new Barracuda Backup Server 1090, one of the largest backup appliances on the market, offering up to 90TB of storage. Backup Server 1090, paired with the Barracuda Backup Service, provides an integrated local and offsite data backup and disaster recovery solution as a subscription service. The Barracuda Backup Service replicates data to cloud storage or between multiple client locations. Barracuda Backup Servers conduct deduplication at data’s origin to minimize unnecessary storage allocation, and offers and secure offsite transfer with compression and encryption. The Backup Server 1090 ships in a 4U chassis with 34 3TB drives in RAID 60, powered by 32 cores, which doubles the processing power of the previous Barracuda Backup Server 990.

The new model 1090 features mirrored SSD drives to host the deduplication and reconstitution database in order to improve speeds and reduce I/O load for backup operations. The Barracuda Backup Server 1090 also improves on its predecessor’s data transfer rates by with 10Gb/s ethernet interfaces.

Availability

The Barracuda Backup Server 1090 is available now and includes a one-time hardware purchase of a Barracuda Backup Server, priced at $135,000 in North America, with an Energize Updates subscription with a no per-server or application backup software license, priced from $24,299 per year. Cloud storage can be added in 200GB increments for $50 per month ($0.25/GB) or with a lower unmetered annual plan for the entire appliance. The Barracuda Backup Service is available worldwide.
