Today, Broadcom Inc. announced the release of Emulex SAN Manager, an enterprise solution to simplify HBA management and remediate network performance problems. The Emulex SAN Manager tool will enable server and storage administrators to troubleshoot and resolve network issues in their environment through an easy to use interface. Administrators will be allowed to manage HBAs as pools of resources, improve operational efficiency by integrating HBA management into new datacenter management analytics, and gain visibility leading to actionable insights.
The IT trends and challenges driving the need for Emulex SAN Manager are the complexity of IT environments, efficiency and performance, and resource constraints. The tool is designed for the data center with complete CLI support so that IT administrators can run commands and download data. Therefore, enabling enterprises to integrate the tool into their standard data center operations. With these offerings, Broadcom provides storage administrators the ability to monitor and manage HBAs attached to the Fabric. It also enables Emulex HBAs and the Brocade Fabric to collaborate and address performance issues through an adaptive real-time algorithm.
Broadcom discusses Emulex SAN Manager’s prominent features and benefits to overcome the HBA and network challenges.
For monitoring, The Emulex SAN Manager Simplifies SAN Management. The tool provides centralized visibility, capturing complete SAN HBA host inventory, host names, OS versions, software, and firmware versions, identifying misconfiguration errors through its multi-path validation tool.
Emulex SAN Manager’s centralized console provides visibility into all of the HBAs connected to the SAN so administrators can do the following:
- Verify that firmware versions currently align with corporate standards.
- Verify that driver versions align with current corporate standards.
- Identify driver-firmware mismatches.
Another critical feature is management. Packed in this tool, Broadcom offers to lower operational costs and improve IT agility. The Emulex SAN Manager aims to reduce storage administrative time and costs by providing centralized in-band HBA administration across the SAN. Administrators can easily access SAN-wide HBA optical transceiver statistics, gaining insight into transceiver health trends giving them the ability to respond before transceivers fail proactively.
According to the company, the tool identifies, minimizes, and mitigates application performance problems in regards to the flexibility challenge. SAN congestion dashboards present congestion and bandwidth graphs, enabling admins to quantify their storage network’s health quickly. Adaptive congestion mitigation via Emulex SAN Manager automatically addresses congestion events, minimizing their impact on fabric performance. The Adaptive Congestion Management feature identifies congestion from two different sources and visualizes the data in a dashboard. The sources of identified congestion include the following: HBA-detected congestion and fabric-detected congestion.
An additional characteristic of this tool is simplicity. The Emulex SAN Manager is a lightweight, agentless application that is easy to deploy and can run in a virtual machine or laptop. No Ethernet connection to individual servers is required, and no dedicated server is needed. A scriptable interface enables integration into modern data center tools.
Availability
Emulex SAN Manager will be available starting September 2.
