Today Caringo announced that it has released the latest version of its object storage software, Swarm version 8. Swarm 8 is offered as a complete software appliance. Users can consolidate all files onto Swarm and quickly search for the data they need reducing total cost of ownership.
As we previously stated, Caringo Swarm gives its users the ability to turn standard hardware into a reliable pool of shared resources resulting in scalability, performance, data security, and support for all major cloud, file and storage protocols. Caringo also indicated that their software is adaptable to the most demanding enterprise workloads, even with use cases that involve complicated compliance, capacity and availability requirements.
Users can install Swarm on any mix of standard hardware. The software runs in RAM and Caringo claims that it maximizes disk efficiency with an industry leading 95% of drive capacity for content. Caringo states that Swarm is the only object storage solution to offer adaptive power conservation technology, compliance features like WORM and Legal Hold. It also has the ability to automatically shift between protection methods, enforced by policies. Not only is Swarm efficient at maximizing capacity and power, it simplifies the ability for organizations to gain insight into their data.

- Dynamic insight and organization at massive scale. Users can gain robust insight and view relationships between objects through ad hoc search and query of object attributes or custom metadata. Results can be viewed via the new Swarm Portal or Caringo’s comprehensive API, or exported to JSON or XML. All searches are dynamic and can be saved as Collections for reuse.
- Rapid file use case development. Object versioning and object renaming dramatically reduce the development effort of integration with file system-based applications and interfaces.
