Caringo has added hierarchical data protection policies, historical metrics and usage metering to Caringo Swarm, the company’s software-defined object storage platform. This results in improved flexibility and ease of operation for users. Caringo continues to build on the platform, earlier this year Caringo made Swarm available for Microsoft Azure.

Currently in version 8.1, Swarm is a storage platform that focuses on data protection, management, and organization and gives its users the ability to quickly search for data to reduce total cost of ownership. Moreover, users no longer need to migrate data into disparate solutions for content delivery, ongoing analysis, and dynamic preservation.

Caringo’s hierarchical data protection policies offer complete flexibility, allowing users to set policies through Swarm’s UI or via an API across clusters, domains, buckets or objects. Coupling these features with erasure coding and replication factors, content lifecycle, and WORM enabling/disabling further enhances Swarm’s continuous protection functionality.

Historical metrics are also viewable through the cluster management UI (or custom API integrations), which provide insightful trend analysis to enhance capacity planning and monitoring. In addition, users can access their disk usage and activity, hardware statistics and operational counters for analytics on storage environment and responsive adjustments to promote system optimization.

Lastly, Caringo indicates that Swarm’s new metering functionality provides Managed Service Providers and enterprises with improved visibility into usage data and has flexible queries available to improve billing, show-back, and capacity planning. Caringo adds that users can search customizable date ranges for bandwidth and storage usage with the ability to drill down to the tenant/domain/bucket levels for a complete view of their storage environment.
