Citrix has unveiled a free cloud-based service to migrate VMware Horizon View virtual app and desktop deployments to XenApp and XenDesktop specifically for VMware customers looking to improve their app and desktop experience, gain greater infrastructure flexibility, and simplify end user computing management. With this new service powered by Citrix Lifecycle Management, it allows administrators to do an in-place migration that takes less than 15 minutes, which is made possible by exporting application and desktop settings from Horizon View into the Citrix app and desktop delivery solution.

The free migration service can significantly simplify and accelerate the migration process all the while offering a unique friendly user experience. Citrix, however, reassures that employees and executives will still be able to maintain their existing desktop, files and settings. The service also gives administrators the ability to choose to manage all components in their own datacenter as well as to use Citrix Workspace Cloud to move VDI and virtual app management to the cloud.
Availability
The free Citrix migration service is immediately available for downloaded for on-premise use or accessed as a service through Citrix Workspace Cloud. In addition, Citrix indicates that VMware customers can save 50 percent off licenses when they switch to Citrix Workspace Suite for a limited time, which includes XenApp, XenMobile ShareFile and NetScaler.
