Coraid today announced EtherFlash Cache, a programmable SSD cache solution that accelerates read performance, and EtherCloud, which aims to allow enterprise and cloud customers to provision and manage petabytes of block and file storage with the simplicity of consumer cloud services.
EtherFlash Cache Overview
EtherFlash Cache allows cloud administrators to dynamically apply policies and priorities to applications as resources and SLAs change. EtherFlash Cache also uses real-time caching to ensure that frequently read data is served from SSD. Priorities can be set per storage volume, and customers can add SSDs to scale out cache capacity over time.
EtherCloud Overview
EtherCloud complements Coraid’s EtherDrive storage with a REST-based interface and policy-based automation to ensure flexibility and programmability. EtherCloud is built with technology from Coraid’s acquisition of Yunteq in late 2011 to connect data-center infrastructure to applications, enabling complete programmability and one-click storage provisioning at multi-petabyte scale.
Software-defined storage allows storage designers and operators to control how storage is deployed, provisioned and managed through software, enabling automation, templates, self-service models and a broader range of cloud-computing services.
Other key features:
- Ability to create pools of storage that can be automatically created and grown on demand
- One-click instantiation of VMware ESXi virtual machines, integrated with storage allocation and networking connectivity
- Multitenancy and integration with lightweight directory access protocol/Active Directory (LDAP/AD) for authentication
- Metering of compute, network and storage use
- Ability to integrate with open networking and cloud frameworks, as well as a variety of industry-standard file systems
Availability
Coraid EtherFlash Cache will be available in Fall 2012. EtherCloud will be available in Q3 2012.
