Crucial Adrenaline Caching SSD Announced

by Kevin OBrien

Crucial recently announced a new version of their popular 2.5-inch m4 SSD called the Adrenaline, with a over-provisioned capacity of 50GB and packaged with Crucial-branded caching software. Aimed as a competitor of the OCZ Synapse caching solution, this DIY package includes everything a buyer needs to install a SSD hybrid solution inside their desktop or twin-bay notebook.

With little mentioned about the software being used, it probably works similarly to the NVELO Dataplex solution, which caches frequently accessed data to the SSD, while offloading “cold” data to a higher capacity hard drive. Combined with an easy to install kit including a SATA cable and 3.5-inch mounting adapter, the Adrenaline Caching SSD should make for a very interesting product with a few competing solutions in the market.

Pricing has not been announced yet, but what is known is the Adrenaline will offer a standard three-year warranty and be sold starting in the first quarter of 2012.
