DataCore Launches SANsymphony-V 9.0 With Storage Virtualization Features

DataCore has announced that SANsymphony-V 9.0, its hardware-independent storage hypervisor solution, offers new cloud storage infrastructure functionality. The new version of SANsymphony targets organizations planning private cloud deployments, data centers implementing cloud-like services, and cloud service providers (CSPs) developing public, private and hybrid cloud offerings.


DataCore has announced that SANsymphony-V 9.0, its hardware-independent storage hypervisor solution, offers new cloud storage infrastructure functionality. The new version of SANsymphony targets organizations planning private cloud deployments, data centers implementing cloud-like services, and cloud service providers (CSPs) developing public, private and hybrid cloud offerings.

Storage Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS)
Self-service requests for cloud storage come in unpredictable patterns, but manual intervention is frequently not an option in large-scale systems. CSPs can programmatically call the IaaS functions in SANsymphony-V 9.0 to satisfy clients’ storage needs based on dynamic profiling and optimizing into tiers to maximize the use of higher performance assets. The software dynamically sets up or tears down virtual disks on cue.

SANsymphony-V 9.0 offers IaaS modules that integrate with hypervisors from VMware and Microsoft, as well as systems management products like Microsoft Systems Center Operations Manager and VMware vCenter. DataCore has also announced that providers of hosted IT services may now rent SANsymphony-V through the company’s Cloud Service Provider Program. Cloud Service Providers (CSPs) can pay for the use of the software monthly based on the amount of storage they serve: DataCore’s “Pay-as-You-Serve” model.

Device-Independent Storage Virtualization and Federation
Variable sizes dictate that storage pools be segmented, and expand or shrink according to the needs of users. SANsymphony-V 9.0 adapts to new requirements, for example by allocating the resources to multiply IOPS, throughput, and caches for added performance when demand calls for it.

The storage hypervisor can pool storage assets regardless of vendor, whether co-located or distant. The hardware-agnostic design allows the federation of purpose-built storage devices (solid state disks, external storage systems, internal server drives and public cloud storage) while simplifying management.

Large Scale Scenarios
SANsymphony-V 9.0 uses N+1 redundant grids for performance expansion and to make cloud storage continuously available. The storage hypervisor anticipates equipment periodically being taken out-of-service for planned and unplanned reasons, redirecting resources to take their place in accordance with service level agreements. As the cloud expands, additional nodes can be seamlessly inserted to add performance and facilitate growth.

Clouds don’t just expand at the core, they expand at the periphery. SANsymphony-V 9.0 connects satellite locations and brings data closer to distant subscribers with 1-to-many and many-to-1 replication options.

Availability
The new licensing structure for SANsymphony-V 9.0 is available in five virtualization models from very large deployments to small pilot programs and branch applications. SANsymphony-V 9.0 will be generally available from DataCore-authorized partners around the world beginning July 2, 2012.

The DataCore Cloud Service Provider Program is currently open to providers of hosted IT services located in Europe; the program will be expanded to include North America and additional geographies over the next 90 days.
