Singapore based tech company Digistore Solutions, recently announced the Centurion iServe, a hybrid NAS that integrates with Blu-ray optical storage drives for long term storage. Supporting up to 10TB of storage per system, the iHub gives businesses up to 50 years of high-capacity archival storage presented in a standard network-attached device.

Everyone has the problem of having to store and manage an ever-increasing amount of data. The solution has been to buy more hard drives, but storing seldom used content on the drive reduces efficiency and lifespan. Centurion iServe connects directly to Centurion iHub, a Blu-ray storage library. The iHub offers 10 TB of storage per system, and organizes data sequentially, rather than at random in most tape setups. Plus, the distributed processing architecture makes the iHub use less than 10% of the power a disk based archive would.

The iServe and iHub represent a new way to approach the problem of long-term data storage and management. Having data stored on Blu-ray and still accessible should be very useful for small businesses looking for a reliable solution. The iServe and iHub will be commercially available in 2012.
