In 2013, Drobo merged with Connected Data. Through the merger, the company was restructured and now operates from a position of profitability. The transition should be seamless for customers, partners, and employees. Geoff Barrall will stay on Drobo’s board of directors. Barrall was the original founder of Drobo and the founder and CEO of Connected Data. Drobo’s new CEO is Mihir H. Shah. Shah has previously worked on the leadership team at Brocade and held senior level roles in corporate development, finance, and sales at IBM.

Drobo units come with an OS that is easy-to-use and they support a majority of the drives on the market. In the Past we have reviewed the B1200i, the Gen 3, the 5D, and the B800i. With this spin off we hope to see a recommitment and focus to bringing Drobo’s technology up to par with the rest of the storage appliances dominating the field.
