Today Drobo announced the launch of its new 8-bay iSCSI SAN, the Drobo B810i. This new SAN is aimed at the SMB market and will be replacing the Drobo B800i. Customers can either mount it in a rack or keep it on a desktop, as the SAN provides flexible block storage, entry-level virtualization, and enough capacity for most creative pros.
The new 8-Bay SAN comes with a maximum capacity of 64TB, comes with Drobo’s BeyondRAID data protection, and like the B810n, the new B810i uses automatic data-aware tiering. Drobo states that its data-aware tiering can see a good improvement in performance without added costs. Drobo states that the B810i is ideal for primary storage, creative workflows, backup, and media libraries.
On the performance side of things, Drobo is claiming write speeds of 110MB/s and read speed of 180MB/s. Along with the performance the B810 also has Cache Pre-Heat that takes a snapshot of the cache meta data to speed recovery in the even of a power failure. And accelerated self healing if a drive fails, now eight times faster than the B800i.
Availability and pricing
The Drobo B810i is available today and starts at $1,699.
