Dropbox, an online storage service, revealed that all user files stored on its system were publicly accessible for four hours this past Sunday because of a flaw in the company’s authentication system. Dropbox currently has 25 million users.

The company’s CTO admitted on the company’s blog that this obviously should not have happened; so far there have been no more details about the bug. Allegedly less than one percent of Dropbox’s users logged in during the security outage; anyone that logged in during the period has been emailed with activity-related details for review.

Unfortunately, issues like this remind us all that "The Cloud" while convenient, isn’t always the best place for our most important files. Then again, the USPS loses important and confidential mail too – so take your chances as you will.
