Druva Launches AI-Powered Data Security Tool: Dru Investigate

by Harold Fritts

Druva’s Dru Investigate removes the need for complex queries when mitigating data risks.

Druva has announced the launch of Dru Investigate, an AI-powered tool designed to enhance data security investigations through a natural language interface. This new solution enables IT, security, legal, and privacy teams to swiftly identify and mitigate data risks without complex queries. Built on Amazon Bedrock, an AWS service for building and scaling generative AI applications, Dru Investigate leverages Druva’s extensive data insights to streamline cybersecurity and legal investigations.

Addressing Data Risks

In an environment where data is increasingly vulnerable, organizations must frequently investigate the extent and impact of potential threats. Security teams must understand complex attack patterns like malware gestation and sprawl to effectively contain and remediate these threats. Legal and privacy teams also need insights into sensitive data protections and issues like employee misconduct or intellectual property theft. However, building queries across disparate data solutions before data can be analyzed can be a complex and time-consuming process.

Dru Investigate Capabilities

Dru Investigate allows users to investigate data risks using natural language queries, simplifying the process and enabling a quicker understanding of data. This AI-driven approach guides users even when unsure of what to search for, significantly streamlining the investigation process to drive faster outcomes, whether responding to a threat or ensuring compliance with data regulations.

Stephen Manley, CTO of Druva, explained that during cyber investigations, security teams often know what data they need but don’t know where to find it, while IT teams know their data but not what the security team requires. Dru Investigate bridges this gap by providing centralized access and insights, allowing teams to act more quickly to remediate threats.

Baskar Sridharan, Vice President of AI and Infrastructure at AWS, emphasized that Druva’s innovation, powered by AWS and Amazon Bedrock, exemplifies how AI can positively impact organizations across multiple functions. Given advanced cyber threats, AI-driven responses like Dru Investigate are crucial for enhancing data security.

Threat Investigation with Natural Language

Dru Investigate simplifies the analysis of cyber threats by allowing users to utilize natural language queries. This capability accelerates decision-making and enhances collaboration, especially in high-pressure situations. With its initial release, Dru Investigate empowers customers to analyze cyber threats’ genesis, scope, and impact, even if they don’t know where to start.

The tool enables organizations to safeguard backup environments by detecting unusual behavior, such as misusing admin credentials. It also helps identify anomalies in data, like sudden file encryption or mass deletions, which could indicate a ransomware attack. Additionally, users can search across protected data to find indicators of compromise, speeding up remediation and recovery.

Data Privacy and Security

Built on Amazon Bedrock, Dru Investigate ensures that data remains secure and private. The tool does not access or learn from customer data and operates using isolated large language models (LLMs) with private Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). This design ensures that all analysis is secure and only interacts with an organization’s metadata, safeguarding sensitive information.

With Dru Investigate, organizations can respond more effectively to data security threats, streamline investigative processes, and safeguard critical data assets.
