Today Egnyte announced that it was awarded a patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for a system and method of implementing an object storage infrastructure for cloud-based services. The patent number is U.S. patent 9135269 B2. This technology is the foundation of the company’s Egnyte Object Store (EOS).

Founded in 2007 and headquartered in Mountain View, CA, Egnyte is a privately held company that specializes in Adaptive Enterprise File Services that uniquely anticipate IT and end users’ needs to securely, easily and intelligently share files on premises and in the cloud. Egnyte’s platform enables customers to with any cloud, storage, device, and business application. This method of integration optimizes collaboration environments through secure access, centralized control, and unified visibility.

EOS is what Egnyte calls its “lifeblood.” EOS can manage multi-petabytes of data and it decides where the data is stored: whether in Egnyte’s data center or third-party data centers like Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Storage. EOS supports native storage, commodity storage, and multiple third-party clouds helping bring cost-effectiveness to its object storage. Not only can customers save costs, they will have many more options for their storage helping them comply with various regulations or requirements for where and how their data needs to reside.
