EMC today announced RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines, a new software solution which extends the RecoverPoint family to provide disaster recovery and replication for VMware cloud environments. RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines can be installed on existing ESXi servers, and in addition to supporting EMC's VMAX, VNX, and VPLEX storage, RecoverPoint for VMs can replicate to and from any VMware-certified storage.

RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines is hypervisor-based and can integrate with VMware vSphere to manage data protection on a per-VM basis with recovery to arbitrary points in time. RecoverPoint for VMs also offers automated disaster recovery orchestration for individual virtual machines or an entire site from within vCenter.

Automated workflows include recovery from logical corruption, failover and failback of specified consistency groups, and non-disruptive disaster recovery testing. RecoverPoint for VMs also incorporates EMC compression, deduplication, and bandwidth reduction technologies.

Availability

EMC will begin offering free RecoverPoint for Virtual Machines licenses for non-production environments in early October. EMC has not published pricing information for production licenses, but has announced that RecoverPoint for VMs will use a per-VM licensing model with a minimum order of 15 licenses per customer.
