Today EMC announced that it is offering an OpenStack Reference Architecture Program. Along with the newly announced EMC Enterprise Hybrid Cloud OpenStack Edition, this new offerings is aimed at helping customers with their OpenStack deployments and to help increasing investments in OpenStack.

According to IDC, 3rd platform applications will be driving nearly 100% of IT growth by 2020. Many of the new workloads will be running on and leveraging Open Source technologies. That means there will be a substantial growth in OpenStack occurring in both the Private and Hybrid clouds.

EMC's OpenStack Reference Architecture Program facilitates the deployment and operation of OpenStack Clouds, providing customers with tested, qualified products and validated reference architectures. EMC is collaborating with Ubuntu, supported by Canonical, Mirantis, and Red Hat, to "release certified and validated architectures complemented by recommended best practices and deployment tool blueprints." Joint integration efforts from the partners involved will simplify the installation of the technologies while providing customers with benefits to ease the consumption of Cloud resources such as "deep storage insight, visibility into event monitoring, and infrastructure operations."

EMC has been actively participating in the OpenStack Foundation and working with customers that are deploying and operating OpenStack clouds. EMC has also increased Cinder development and contributed to the Juno release that including feature-rich plug-ins for VMAX, VNX, ViPR, XtremIO, and ScaleIO.

EMC will expand this program into 2015 with partners such as VMware and other members of the OpenStack partner ecosystem. And EMC is working with on a new project named Manila, which they believe will be well received by the user community.
