This partnership draws on the Avamar brand and user base among VMware administrators and is meant to better position vSphere towards SMBs and department-level VMware environments. vSphere Data Protection can be managed directly from the vSphere Web Client, and takes advantage of the vSphere Storage APIs to enable agentless backup.
