Today EMC Corporation announced the immediate availability of Federation Software-Defined Data Center Solution. This is the first of five planned solutions from the EMC Federation of business. The Federation consists of EMC Information Infrastructure (EMC II), VMware, Pivotal, and RSA.
The new Federation Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) Solution provides a completely virtualized data center that is fully automated by software and delivered as a service. The solution will accelerate time to value, enable mission-critical applications run on infrastructure that delivers greater visibility, manageability, cost control, and agility, and can automate orchestration workflows to accelerate ease in deployment. The solution will help enterprise IT accelerate the migration to a hybrid cloud while utilizing existing investments, allowing IT to run both next-generation and traditional workloads.
The Federation Software-Defined Data Center Solution is built on top of these products from the Federation:
- Management and Orchestration: VMware vCloud Automation Center, VMware vCenter Operations Management, VMware IT Business Management, EMC Storage Resource Manager
- Hypervisor: VMware vSphere, the industry’s most widely deployed virtualization platform
- Networking: VMware NSX, the network virtualization and security platform for the software-defined data center. VMware NSX brings virtualization to existing networks and transforms network operations and economics
- Storage: Designed for EMC ViPR & EMC Storage, EMC Storage Resource Manager, VMware Virtual SAN.
- Hybrid Cloud Deployment Models: Connectivity to VMware vCloud Air
- Choice of Hardware: Built on converged infrastructure and can be deployed on a variety of hardware including VCE Vblock and VSPEX.
- PaaS: Delivering Platform-as-a-Service with Pivotal CF
- Documented Reference Architectures
The Federation Software-Defined Data Center Solution features include:
- Automated Virtual Machine provisioning
- Automated dynamic network provisioning
- Automated monitoring
- Metering and usage transparency
- Secure separation and App micro-segmentation
- Automated storage-tier provisioning
- Backup and recovery services
- Automated disaster recovery
- Connectivity to public cloud
- Hybrid cloud workload migration
The EMC Federation also four more solutions planned for the future: Platform-as-a-Service, End-user Computing, Virtualized Data Lake, and Security Analytics. Each new solution will be a combined effort across the Federation to help customers as they modernize their IT, analyze Big Data, move to mobile platforms, all the while keeping data secure.
