EMC has announced enhancements to its VPLEX virtual storage and operating environment, including support for EMC RecoverPoint data protection and EMC AccessAnywhere’s cache coherency technology for third-site disaster recovery. VPLEX now integrates with VMware vSphere Storage APIs for Storage Awareness (VASA) and VMware vSphere Storage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI).
VPLEX distributed virtual storage enables data to be accessible simultaneously across virtual servers and adds support for deployments with VMware vSphere and Oracle RAC, including delegation of VPLEX management to vSphere. Unisphere is EMC’s native management solution, now available across its complete storage portfolio including EMC VMAX Family, VPLEX, and the EMC VNX Family.
RecoverPoint for Availability
RecoverPoint integration with VPEX now also extends RecoverPoint protection across the EMC storage portfolio. RecoverPoint’s continuous data protection capabilities provide copies of production data for efficient recovery in the event of data corruption; continuous local replication and continuous remote replication protect data from site disasters.
In VMware environments, RecoverPoint and VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager integrate to provide predictable and ordered disaster recovery and restart of virtual machines. This integration is backed by VMware’s certification of RecoverPoint and VPLEX Local and Metro.
VPLEX Performance Updates
VPLEX now offers increased integration with centralized management of VMs and storage environments directly from vSphere via vSphere Storage APIs for Storage Awareness (VASA) and vSphere VAAI. EMC’s analytics indicate 40% better performance for currently-deployed VPLAX solutions (VPLEX also includes new performance monitoring) and double the maximum scale of previous versions, with the ability to support up to 1,600 host initiators per configuration. Certified support for Oracle RAC enables multi-site active/active RAC deployments over up to 100 kilometers, maintaining full synchronization and continuous operations in the event of site failure.
