Emphase Releases S5 Series SSD That Can Self-Destruct At The Push Of A Button

Today Emphase released their new S5 series military-grade SSD that features a self-destruct feature to wipe all data at the push of a button. Offered in capacities ranging from 16GB to 128GB, with 256GB and 512GB version in the works, the S5-series SSD is made to handle any environment. With MILSPEC ratings in vibration, shock, thermal shock, drop, and altitude, this SSD can work in pretty much any condition.


Today Emphase released their new S5 series military-grade SSD that features a self-destruct feature to wipe all data at the push of a button. Offered in capacities ranging from 16GB to 128GB, with 256GB and 512GB version in the works, the S5-series SSD is made to handle any environment. With MILSPEC ratings in vibration, shock, thermal shock, drop, and altitude, this SSD can work in pretty much any condition.

The main feature that sets this drive apart from the rest is its ability to initiate an internal wiping command at the push of a button or via ATA command. Using service pins located on the front of the drive near the SATA power and data interface, users can connect a jumper (or case button) that triggers the correct pins to start the wiping process. Once the command has been initiated, pulling the power cable won’t help… each time the drive is plugged back in the wipe feature resumes until it has been completed.

Pricing has not yet been released, but given the military and industrial markets this drive is targeting, don’t expect it to be cheap.
