ExaGrid’s disk-based backup appliances are engineered to provide a straightforward and reliable backup experience for VMware customers using Veeam backup software. Combining the two virtual server data protection solutions allows customers to utilize Veeam Backup & Replication in VMware, vSphere, and Microsoft Hyper-V virtual environments along with ExaGrid’s functionality for zone-level deduplication and replication to an offsite location for disaster recovery.

Read our ExaGrid EX21000E Disk Backup Appliance Review, in which we found to be the most flexible deduplication appliance on the market with its support for over 20 backup software packages, scale-out architecture that expands compute with capacity and rapid recovery.

ExaGrid’s storage appliances can serve both as backup target for virtual machine backups and can leverage a new update to allow Veeam’s data mover to be installed directly within ExaGrid appliances. This update utilizes a Veeam backup server in tandem with the ExaGrid-hosted data mover, with the two systems communicating over a proprietary network protocol rather than CIFS. This integration allows the ExaGrid appliance to speed the creation of synthetic full backups for virtual environments by offloading work from the Veeam server.

ExaGrid and Veeam can recover a VMware virtual machine by running it directly from the ExaGrid appliance in the event of a primary storage outage via ExaGrid’s “landing zone.” The landing zone is a high-speed cache on the ExaGrid appliance that retains complete copies of the most recent backups. Veeam’s Instant VM Recovery allows customers to run the VMware virtual machine directly from the backup on the ExaGrid appliance until primary storage environment has been brought back to a working state.

What’s going on at the booth?

Exagrid is showing off their dedupe backup appliance as well as videos highlighting core architecture benefits over the competition. Overall, Exagrid is a great hardware partner for Veeam due to its landing zone and the new data mover support.

They are also giving away an iPhone 6 or Galaxy S5!
