Fusion-io has announced that Host Europe, a European managed cloud service, has integrated Fusion ioMemory technology to virtualize gaming databases. This change in their data centers was aimed to reduce infrastructure and costs all the while increasing virtualized database performance capabilities, which results in competitive pricing for their customers.

Host Europe Group has over one million customers in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK, USA and Spain and their infrastructure can experience rapid spikes in demand as an application’s popularity increases. Traditional storage arrays that can’t deliver high speeds consistently require more management and aren’t as cost effective in a virtualized system. Host Europe decided to deploy ioMemory technology to help eliminate virtualized MySQL database bottlenecks, which will reduce server sprawl and efficiently scale to meet demand.

For example, when an online game becomes popular, or when most users log on for peak playing times, traditional systems are usually stressed, forcing companies to sprawl out traditional data centers at high cost to customers and greater impact on providers bottom lines. Soon after Fusion ioMemory was integrated into Host Europe’s servers, it reported up to five times more workloads per server with specific customer’s popular massively multiplayer online social game. The Fusion-io platform gives Host Europe the ability to virtualize multiple databases, resulting in a 30 percent reduction in overall hardware requirements.
