Google has announced the Beta version of Google Cloud Datalab at this week’s Google Cloud Platform Next event in Paris. The new data exploration solution is a web-based interactive developer tool, which gives users valuable insight from raw data as well as the ability to explore, share, and publish reports in an efficient and budget-friendly manner. Google has announced the Beta version of Google Cloud Datalab at this week’s Google Cloud Platform Next event in Paris. The new data exploration solution is a web-based interactive developer tool that gives users valuable insight from raw data as well as the ability to explore, share, and publish reports in an efficient and budget-friendly manner. In addition, Google has designed Cloud Datalab to leverage BigQuery, Google Cloud Storage, and IPython, allowing it to easily integrate with other products.

Cloud Datalab will enable developers to interactively write code, with Google listing the following features.

  • Explore, transform, visualize and process data in Google Cloud Platform.
  • Combine code from multiple languages seamlessly: Python, SQL and JavaScript (BigQuery UDF)
  • Build and test data pipeline for deployment to BigQuery
  • Create, tune, and deploy Machine Learning models

Google also indicates that their new Cloud Datalab is ready out of the box, offering its users a secure multi-user environment that features integrated source controls for both developers and data scientists. This zero-setup design will certainly help businesses stay within their budget and quicken deployments.

Also announced in Paris is Google Cloud Shell Beta, which is essentially a Google managed Admin Machine. The IT giant realizes that users need easy and efficient management tools for their infrastructure and applications on the Google Cloud Platform; both on and off site. By expanding on their Google Compute Engine VM instances, Google Cloud Shell will work with all aspects of the platform (from previous just VMs).

Now available in the Google Developers Console, Cloud Shell gives users command-line access to computing resources that are hosted on Google Cloud Platform. Google has ensured that enough storage space is available to store and save their Cloud Shell session, a feature which is very handy when you suddenly disconnect or need access from a different machine. To launch the Cloud Shell, simply open the Google Developers Console and click the Cloud Shell icon, which is located the top right from any page of the Console.
